A Novel Modeling Method of Surface Roughness in a Microfluidic Channel

A novel modeling method of a surface roughness is presented. A straight channel having a random, normally distributed roughness is studied by measuring the change of a hydraulic resistance. The modeling is made more realistic by focusing attention to the roughness definition. Navier-Stokes equations are solved numerically with a finite element method FEM. Both two and three dimensional cases with roughness varying 1 30 are studied. The results and developed modeling method create base for further experimental research on the effect of surface roughness on micro-channel flows.
