Information

The 59th International Conference of Scandinavian Simulation Society, SIMS 2018, took place in Oslo, Norway, September 26-28, 2018. Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet) organised the conference in collaboration with University of South-Eastern Norway (USN), NTNU – Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the Norwegian Society of Electric and Automatic Control (NFEA), and the Scandinavian Simulation Society. The 1000-year-old Norwegian capital sits at the head of the Oslo Fjord and has a municipal population of about 670 000. The city offers visual delights such as the Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Viking Ship Museum, the Munch Museum and Holmenkollen, as well as more challenging content such as the new Nobel Peace Centre and the Holocaust Center. The Oslo Pass allows free travel on public transport, free parking and many museum and sight admissions.
The SIMS 59 conference covered broad aspects of simulation, modeling and optimization in engineering, especially in energy applications. Central themes include:
• modeling and simulation for design, planning, optimization, control, monitoring and diagnostics
• modeling tools, numerical methods for simulation, simulation tools, and technology
• visualization of modeling and simulation results
Application areas include: Automotive energy systems, Bio energy and biofuels, Biosystems and medical systems, Carbon capture and storage, Chemical process plants, Electric power systems, Energy storage, Energy and climate, Environmental impact, Fuel cells, Geothermal systems, Health and Welfare, Heat pumps, Hybrid and electrical vehicles, Hydro power, Industrial energy systems, Marine energy systems, Mechatronic energy systems, Oil and gas exploration and production, Photovoltaics, processing plants, Power stations, Refrigeration systems, Solar thermal systems, Thermal power plants, Wave and tidal power, Wind power.
A key component of the SIMS conference is the opportunity to socialize and make new connections. The conference offers several possibilities for networking including a conference dinner at the restaurant Olivia at Aker Brygge, a conference study visit to the VEAS water treatment plant, and last but not least several coffee and lunch breaks.
